The Endoscopy Unit at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center boasts one of the most active and most equipped GI facilities in New York.

 

It consists of three procedure rooms, a pre-procedure waiting area, and a post-procedure monitoring area. The staff assesses, evaluates, and treats patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Patients can be inpatient as well as outpatient (ambulatory surgery).

Procedures and Services

  • Diagnostic Upper Endoscopy, Enteroscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, and Colonoscopy
  • Capsule Endoscopy
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound
  • Endoscopic Biopsy, Photography, Cytology, Electrocoagulation, Endoscopic Injection, Sclerotherapy, Band Ligation, Removal of Foreign Bodies, and Polypectomy
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography – Sphincterotomy, Endoscopic Extraction of Gallstones, Nasobiliary-Stent Placement
  • Placement and Removal of Endoscopic Stents
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy and Jejunostomy Placement, Removal,
    and Change
  • Liver Biopsy, Ultrasound, and Other Studies Required – Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
  • Esophageal Motilities
  • Lactose Tolerance Test

The Department of Gastroenterology also provides an individualized approach to patient care on an outpatient basis for those who have, or think they may have, Hepatitis C, including:

  • Screening, Treatment and Diagnosis
  • Evaluation of Liver Function Including Lab Work, Diagnostic Testing, Liver Biopsy, and Endoscopy
  • Management of Side Effects
  • Management of Cirrhosis of the Liver
  • Vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B
  • Administration of Medication
  • Psychiatric Evaluation and Follow-Up
  • Referral for Transplant Evaluation
  • Support Groups and Counseling
  • Patient Education
  • Long-Term Monitoring

Colorectal cancer kills thousands of Americans each year and is the third leading cancer killer in the United States. Americans spend billions of dollars a year on treatment for colorectal cancer, which is the second most expensive cancer to treat after prostate cancer. Through the division’s outpatient services, screening is performed routinely to patients with indications for colorectal cancer.
