About Your Bill

You may receive bills for services rendered at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center from several sources.

Hospital Billing

Patients admitted to the hospital (inpatients) will receive separate invoices for some services. Your hospital bill will include charges for your room, food, medical supplies and services, and any tests or procedures that you undergo, including x-rays.

Patients seen in the emergency room, a clinic, or other outpatient setting may receive separate invoices for some services. Your emergency room, clinic, or outpatient bill will include charges for the use of the facility and any tests or procedures done at the time of your appointment. For scheduling reasons, some tests or procedures may be performed at a later date and will be billed separately from your outpatient or clinic invoice.

Physician’s Bill

Some physicians and physician groups may send you separate invoices that include the cost of medical or surgical care as well as costs involving review and interpretation of your diagnostic tests. For example, you might receive a bill from the radiologist who reads your x-ray. In addition, patients seen at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center may receive invoices from hospital-based physicians like anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, pathologists, as well as from private community physicians.

 

Paying Your Bill

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center promises to serve all patients. Services will not be denied based on a person’s race, color, sex, national origin, disability, religion, sexual orientation, family size, income, or inability to pay. Accepted insurance includes Medicaid, Medicare, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Discounted fees are offered for patients who qualify.

Payment Plans

We recommend that you contact your insurance payer before any hospital, clinic, or physician office visit to find out what is covered under your plan and whether you will be responsible for any part of the payment. If you are not able to pay your account in full, we can help you with a payment plan. If you are unable to pay for necessary medical care, you may qualify for financial assistance.

Although hospital charges are the same for all patients, the patient's responsibility may vary based on his or her health insurance plan and/or negotiated payment plans. Uninsured or underinsured patients should contact our financial assistance office. Patient accounts does not manage insurance coverage for patients.

Following is a table that displays charges for room and board, emergency department, operating room, delivery, radiology, laboratory, and other procedures. These prices are current as of January 2023.

Moreover, these estimates may not include professional fees such as physician, radiologist, anesthesiologist, and pathological fees. The insurance benefit information (where applicable) is based on information provided by insurers which may not be current on the date of a scheduled procedure, and benefits and eligibility are subject to change and are not a guarantee of payment.

When you see a doctor or other health care provider, you may owe certain out-of-pocket costs, such as a copayment, coinsurance, and/or a deductible. You may have other costs or have to pay the entire bill if you see a provider or visit a health care facility that isn’t in your health plan’s network.

"Out-of-network" describes providers and facilities that haven’t signed a contract with your health plan. Out-of-network providers may be permitted to bill you for the difference between what your plan agreed to pay and the full amount charged for a service. This is called “balance billing.” This amount is likely more than in-network costs for the same service and might not count toward your annual out-of-pocket limit.

"Surprise billing" is an unexpected balance bill. This can happen when you can’t control who is involved in your care—like when you have an emergency or when you schedule a visit at an in- network facility but are unexpectedly treated by an out-of-network provider.

It is the policy at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center to assist patients who receive healthcare services at our hospital and need financial assistance, regardless of age, gender, race, national origin, socio-economic or immigrant status, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation.

If you are unable to pay for necessary medical care, you may qualify for financial assistance. Wyckoff Heights Medical Center can assist qualified patients.

  • Residents of New York State may qualify for charity care or financial assistance for medically necessary emergency services.
  • Residents of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center’s primary service area may qualify for charity care or financial assistance for medically necessary non-emergency services.
  • Patients with income of less than 300% of the federal poverty level may be eligible for charity care or financial assistance and may qualify for nominal payments or discounted rates, depending on family size and household income. Installment payment plans are available.
  • Charity care or financial aid eligibility will be determined upon completion of a charity care or financial assistance application. See additional information under Resources, below.

This policy does not apply to physicians or other providers who independently bill for their services.

Generally, patients will be encouraged to first apply for applicable insurance programs, such as Workers Compensation and no-fault insurance, and publicly subsidized health insurances (i.e., Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus, Prenatal Care Assistance Program).

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center will not engage in any of the following actions ("Extraordinary Collection Actions" or "ECAs"):

  • Commencing any legal action to collect a bill from a patient (but this does not include filing of a claim in a pending bankruptcy proceeding)
  • Reporting to a credit rating agency
  • Deferring or denying services unless the patient prepays (unless the prepayment requirement is unrelated to the failure to pay a prior bill)
  • Placing a lien on the individual’s property (except liens permitted under state law upon judgments or settlement for personal injury related to the care provided)
  • Attaching or seizing any individual bank account
  • Garnishing wages

With Wyckoff Heights Medical Center’s FollowMyHealth portal you have 24/7 access to your important medical records, including:

  • Lab results (i.e., COVID test results)
  • Radiology results
  • Visit and discharge documentation
  • Health profile including insurance coverage information, medications, allergies, and health issues (diagnoses)
  • Patient education
  • Notes your doctors have written during the visit

When you check in at one of WHMC’s clinics for an appointment, you will be asked to provide an email address as part of your sign in process. A one-time email invite will then automatically be sent to you with the subject, "Reminder: Invitation to join Wyckoff Hospital’s Patient Portal."

Please use the link provided in the email to sign up for the portal. You will be asked to create your own portal login using a unique username and password. After your initial sign up through the email, you will be able to use the FollowMyHealth app to view your information from your android or IOS mobile device.
